O Allah, (please) confer upon me with the grace of pilgrimage to Your Holy House in this year and every year as long as You keep me alive, with easiness, good health, and expansive sustenance from You. Do not deprive me of these noble situations, holy places, and visiting the tomb of Your Prophet—may Your blessings be upon him and his Household. (Please) stand for me in all of my needs for this worldly life and the Next World. O Allah, I beseech You regarding that which You decide and determine from the inevitable decisions that You make on the Grand Night— decisions that are neither retreated nor altered— to include me with the pilgrims to Your Holy House whose pilgrimage is admitted by You, whose efforts are thankfully accepted by You, whose sins are forgiven by You, and whose offenses are pardoned by You., Within Your determined decisions, please decide for me a long life, expansive sustenance, and help to fulfill my trusts and settle my debts. Respond to me, O Lord of the worlds!

Translation:

O Most High! O All-great! O All-forgiving! O All-merciful! You are the All-great Lord like Whom there is nothing, and He is the All-hearing, the All-aware. This is a month that You have glorified, ennobled, honored, and preferred to the other months. It is the month that You imposed upon me to observe fasting in it. It is the month of Ramadan during which You revealed the Qur'an as guidance for people, clear proofs on true guidance, and distinction (between the right and the wrong). You decided the Grand Night to be in it and You have decided it to be more favorable that one thousand months. So, O Lord of graces! None can ever do favor to You! please, do me a favor by releasing me from the Fire and by including me with those to whom You do this favor, and allow me to enter Paradise, on account of Your mercy. O most Merciful of all those who show mercy

In al-Kafi, al-Kulayni has narrated on the authority of Abu-Basir that Imam al-Sadiq(a.s.) used to say the following supplicatory prayer in Ramadan:

Translation:

O Allah, from You and by You, I beseech for settling my need. If others beg people for settling their needs, I ask none except You for settling my need; from You alone, since You have no partner with You. I thus implore You in the name of Your favor and Your pleasure, to send blessings to Muhammad and his Household and to choose for me a way to Your Holy House this year: a pilgrimage that is admitted, accepted, pure, and sincerely intended for You by which You delight me and raise my rank with You. Confer upon me with the grace of making me cast my sight down (against what is illegal for me to look at), making me act chastely, and making me stop committing any deed that You have deemed unlawful so that nothing will be more preferred in my sight than obedience to You, fear of You, doing all that which You love, and avoiding all that which You have detested and warned against. (Please) make all that take place with easiness, lenience, and good health as well as the grace that You have bestowed upon me. I beseech You to cause me to die as martyr for Your sake, under the pennon of Your Prophet and in the line of Your intimate servants. I ask You to make me a means of killing Your enemies and the enemies of Your Messenger. I ask You to honor me through humiliating any one of Your created beings that You choose, and not to humiliate me through honoring any of Your intimate servants. O Allah, find me a way with the Messenger. Allah is Sufficient unto me! Only that which Allah wants shall take place.

Explanation / Details::

This supplication is called Dua al-Hajj. It has been narrated by Sayyid Ibn Tawus in al-Iqbal who said that Imam al-Sadiq(a.s.) used to say this supplicatory prayer after the Maghrib (sunset) Prayers in Ramadan. Moreover, Shaykh al-Kaf’ami, in al-Balad al-Amin, has narrated that it is recommended to say this supplicatory prayer every day in Ramadan and especially at the first night of it. As to Shaykh al-Mufid, he, in his book of al-Muqni’ah, has mentioned that this supplicatory prayer is exclusively said at the first night of Ramadan after the Maghrib Prayer.

In fact, the best of deeds at the nights and on the days of Ramadan is the recitation of the Holy Qur’an. It is thus highly advisable to recite it in this month in a way different from reciting it in the other months, since its revelation was in Ramadan. A Hadith reads that everything has a springtime; and the springtime of the Holy Qur’an is the month of Ramadan. It is recommended to recite the whole Qur’an once a month or once each six days in the other months, according to some narrations. As to the month of Ramadan, it is required to recite it wholly once every three days. If possible, it will be better if it is recited wholly every day. ‘Allamah al-Majlisi has narrated that some of the Holy Imams (a.s.) used to recite the whole Qur’an forty times, or even more, in Ramadan. The reward of reciting the whole Qur’an is doubled when its recitation is dedicated to the souls of the holy fourteen Infallibles (a.s.) by dedicating each recitation to each one of them respectively. According to some narrations, the reward of one who dedicates the recitation of the Holy Qur’an to the Holy Infallibles (a.s.) is that one shall be included with them on the Resurrection Day. It is also advisable to say supplications, offer prayers, implore for Almighty Allah’s forgiveness, In this regard, Imam Ali ibn al-Husayn Zayn al-’Abidin (a.s.) used to stop talking in Ramadan except with phrases of prayers, glorification of Almighty Allah, implorations of His forgiveness, and phrases of confessing of His magnificence (i.e. Takbir –saying: Allahu-akbar). It is finally recommended to pay a great interest to the reported acts of worship as well as the supererogatory prayers at nights and days.
