Condolence

Description: The Prophet (S) said, ‘Whoever condoles with a grief-stricken person receives the same reward as him [The reward of the grief-stricken is for their endurance of their pain (ed.)].’

رسولُ اللّٰهِ‏ِ (صَلَّيَ اللّٰهُ عَلَيهِ وَ آلِهِ): مَن عَزّي مُصاباً كانَ لَهُ مِثلُ أجرِهِ.

Description: Imam Ali (a.s.) said, ‘Whoever condoles with a mother bereaved of her child will be shaded by Allah by the shade of His Throne on the Day when no other shade will avail.’

الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): مَن عَزَّي الثَّكلي أظَلَّهُ اللّه‏ُ في ظِلِّ عَرشِهِ يَومَ لا ظِلَّ إلّا ظِلُّهُ.

Description: Imam al-Sadiq (a.s.) said, ‘The minimum condolence required of you is that the bereaved one sees you present.’

الإمامُ الصّادقُ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): كَفاكَ مِنَ التَّعزِيَةِ بأن يَراكَ صاحِبُ المُصيبَةِ.

Description: Imam Ali (a.s.) narrated that when the Prophet (S) gave condolences, he would say, ‘May Allah recompense you and have mercy on you’, and that when he gave congratulations, he would say, ‘May Allah bless you and send blessings on you.’

الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): كانَ رَسولُ اللّه‏ِ (صَلَّيَ اللّٰهُ عَلَيهِ وَ آلِهِ) إذا عَزّي قالَ: آجَرَكُمُ اللّه‏ُ ورَحِمَكُم ، وإذا هَنَّأ قالَ: بارَكَ اللّه‏ُ لَكُم وبارَكَ عَلَيكُم.

Description: Imam Ar-Ridha’ (a.s.) said, when giving condolences to al-Hasan b. Sahl, ‘Congratulating someone for the reward that is in store for them is more appropriate than condoling them for a transient affliction.’

الإمامُ الرِّضا (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) ـ في تَعزِيَتِهِ لِلحَسَنِ بنِ سَهلٍ ـ: التَّهنِئَةُ بِآجِلِ الثَّوابِ أولي مِن التَّعزِيَةِ عَلي عاجِلِ المُصيبَةِ .
